Falcon Fans Rise Up !!
Quarterbacks - Led by team captain Matt Ryan, coming off a career setting season and signing a five year extension has high hopes for another run for a title. Even having drafting Sean Renfree from Duke. Renfree will be tutored while holding a clipboard behind Matt Ryan. Unlikely, after a few poor performances by Dominque Davis it is unlikely he will remain on the team.
Runningbacks - With an effort to save some salary cap the Falcons released Micheal Turner. In a shocking preseason trade, Jacksonville sends Maurice Jones-Drew to the already potent Falcon offense. This plays heavily into the role of summer acquisition of Steven Jackson. Jaquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling being pushed even further down the depth charts. I wouldn't count on Snelling returning to the team before the regular season.
Wide Receivers - With out a doubt, the Falcons have arguably the strongest receiving core in the NFL. Led by long time veteran Roddy White, and break out athlete Julio Jones. Do not under estimate receivers Harry Douglas and Drew Davis. It will be interesting to see how this offense operates, having acquiring Jones-Drew and Steven Jackson. An already potent offense, just became stronger. All the NFC South has been put on notice. Falcons are all in this season.
Tight Ends - Future hall of famer Tony Gonzelaz announced today he will return for one more season. This is all or nothing for this ball club, priming themselves for one solid run for a championship. Behind Tony, is Chase Coffman, and rookie out of Stanford Levine Toilolo. Tony will be working heavily with Levine, as this is Tony's last season.
Offensive Line - One of the bitter weak spots of the team, has become weaker, with the departure of Todd McClure and Tyson Clabo. Second year veteran Peter Konz slides to center for the retired McClure and Mike Johnson shifts to tackle from the guard slot for the departure of Clabo. Johnson suffered an ankle injury, so Lamaar Holmes may get the nod at the starting tackle position. I hope this line holds up, as the Falcons offense is poised to be something to be feared.
Defensive Line - Among the salary cap cuts made, John Abraham was added to the list. Abraham signed with Arizona, leaving a hurting pass rush in even more woe. Going out and bringing in two time super bowl winner, and two time pro bowler Osi Umenyoria could help things. Osi has some big shoes to fill, adding with him is stuntman Kroy Biermann. Biermann can be seen lining up at linebacker and even safety to further confuse offenses. Defensive ends, Cliff Mathews and rookie pick Stansly Maponga from Texas Christian University would need to put on more pressure to help this weak pass rush from a season ago. Defensive tackles Jonathon Babineaux, Corey Peters, and Peria Jerry need to play better as well.
Linebackers - Sean Weatherspoon is rumored to shift to middle linebacker, with Steven Nicholas on the left and acquired linebacker Brian Banks on the right. Akeem Dent will remain in stunt packages with Robert James. Defensive Coordinator Mike Nolan, known for his 3-4 defenses will run a lot of two linebackers with Weatherspoon and Nicholas.
Cornerbacks - Major changes have been done to this position. Releasing Dunta Robinson for salary cap, whom signed with Kansas City, and Brent Grimes leaving in free agency to Miami. Adding to the changes, Asante Samuel was traded to the Jaguars in part of the trade to bring MJD to Atlanta. The team was compelled to draft Desmond Trufant from Washington. Not only drafting Trufant, in the second round drafted Robert Alford, from Southeastern Louisiana. Added into the trade from Jacksonville, is rookies cornerbacks Dwayne Gratz from Connecticut, and Jeremy Harris from New Mexico State. We will be watching closely to how this rookie corner system works out.
Safeties - Arguably the best safety tandem in the NFL, William Moore and Thomas Decoud operate like a well oiled machine. Two very hard hitting ball hawks roaming the backfield confusing opposing quarterbacks and baiting bad throws. Young rookies Zeke Motta from Notre Dame and Kemal Ishmael from Central Florida will be checking in on some packages to aid this already strong back field.
Kickers/Punters - Matt Bryant is consistent and reliable kicker. Matt Bocher is a also a solid and reliable punter. Bocher will be taking kick offs now, leaving Bryant to just kick field goals.
